The Most F1 Career Fastest Laps of All Time

The fastest lap of an F1 race used to be a curiosity — a stat at the bottom of the leaderboard with no points attached. Then in 2019 a single bonus point returned, and suddenly fastest lap became part of strategic decision-making. Across F1 history, however, fastest laps have always been a quiet measure of pace beyond the chequered flag: the time when a driver was indisputably the quickest on track in race conditions.

This list ranks the all-time leaders by career fastest laps. The names at the top match the names at the top of most other F1 records — Schumacher, Hamilton, Räikkönen, Prost, Mansell — because cars capable of winning races are also typically capable of setting fastest laps. The exceptions, drivers with high fastest-lap counts and lower win counts, suggest cars that were quick over a single lap but struggled with race-distance reliability or strategy.

Fastest laps tell a slightly different story than wins. They reward outright pace at any moment of the race, often when track conditions improve at the end of a stint or when a driver has free track ahead. The bonus-point era from 2019 onwards changed the strategic calculus, but historically the fastest-lap leaderboard correlates more strongly with raw pace than with championship strategy — making it a useful complementary measure to wins and poles.
