The Most Dominant Seasons in Formula 1 History
Max Verstappen holds the top spot with a 86.4% win rate.
Some Formula 1 seasons end with a championship decided in the closing minutes of the final race. Others are mathematically over by midsummer. This list collects the latter โ the years in which a single driver was so consistently fast and reliable that the championship became a procession rather than a contest.
We rank by win rate rather than by raw win count, because the calendar has nearly tripled in length since 1950. Winning six of seven races in 1952 represents a different shape of dominance than winning eleven of seventeen in 2002, but both are crushing in their own context. To keep the comparison fair, only seasons in which a driver entered at least 70% of the calendar and won at least five races are eligible.
What follows is the definitive answer to the question every F1 fan eventually asks: how good can a single driver be in a single year?

Dominant seasons rarely happen in isolation. They almost always come from a confluence โ a generational driver, a regulation-stable car that suits them, and a team without internal politics. Most of the entries on this list are also part of multi-year championship streaks, with the dominant year distinguished from the merely championship-winning year by the rest of the grid being slow to adapt before the next regulation cycle.
Looking forward, the 2026 regulation reset is widely expected to reshuffle the front of the field. That makes the records at the top of this list โ particularly Max Verstappen's 19 wins from 22 starts in 2023 โ unlikely to be matched in the immediate future.
